Claudius

Picture
Born to ancient Rome and sold into slavery at the age of 6 by his own parents, it is embedded into his nature to rarely trust anybody.  He is extremely short-tempered, and will most often choose violence over words.  At the age of 16, he suffered a "live christening", meaning his blood was not fully drained before the vampire blood was introduced, so his body had to "die" from the inside out.  It is an extremely painful process and resulted in a complete loss of pigment leaving him with red eyes and white hair.  He views his unnatural looks as a blessing for it not only causes others to underestimate his strength, but it also serves as a natural deterrent to most forms of personal interaction.

(appears in volumes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Lord Audric of Beauregard II

Picture

Kindred to Claudius he was made a vampire during the dark, chaotic days of feudal France.  He has devoted himself to culture and intelligence, and clings to compassion and mercy as the only link left to his mortal coil.  He abhors violence, but will draw forth his sword if compelled to fight or protect something he firmly believes in.  He wants desperately to believe that there is something good in everyone, but struggles over and over again to find such redemption in his sire, Claudius.

(appears in volumes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Furi

Picture

Fleeing a troubled youth, she was found and taken in by Claudius to live among the realms of The Damned.  Ever human and always at his side, she has pledged her undying devotion to him in spite of their sometimes turbulent relationship.  Having a temper nearly equal to his, the two of them seem to be constantly at odds and trapped in a cycle of jealousy and stubbornness.  She is prone to bouts of severe self-doubt and insecurity, and is constantly afraid that she will once again be left alone and unwanted.

(appears in volumes 4, 5)

Mathias Bucaresti

Picture

Having befriended Claudius over 300 year ago, Mathias is regarded as the most trusted friend and ally he has.  Firmly grounded in logic and rational thought, he is slow to act and often serves as a mediator for those that do not know how to navigate Claudius's unstable personality.  He is the The Damned's manager as well as one of the nightclub's headlining musicians.  Though generally thought of as mild-mannered and easy going, this chain-smoking "nice-guy" will never hesitate to take up arms in the name of loyalty.

(appears in volumes 4, 5)

Kalen Kavanagh

Picture

A freelance mercenary of sorts, he uses his vampire talents to hunt and kill for profit.  Carefree and full of charming swagger, he's notorious for being a fan of the ladies.  He's a capable tactician and a natural leader, and will more than often start a fight rather than attempt to end one.  He's almost obnoxiously proud of his Irish heritage, and will take extreme offense at anyone who attempts to criticize it.  Though outwardly brash, arrogant, and reckless, he is noble and loyal to a fault.

(appears in volumes 4, 5)

Lucius

Picture
The overseer for the man that bought young Claudius, he was the driving force behind everything that the boy came to be.  As a master manipulator, he wields pain, fear, and emotional abuse as freely as he chooses.  A chameleon of sorts, he is constantly changing who he is to fit the needs of those around him, while always keeping his true intentions hidden deep within himself.  He believes himself righteous in all that he does.  Unpredictable and malicious, one never knows what he is up to, or what he is capable of.

(appears in volumes 1, 3, 4, 5)

Lady Josephine of Charboneau

Picture
A beautiful and free-spirited woman, Josephine was the moral compass by which Audric lived his life.  Their undying love and devotion for each other rivaled the stuff of legends, and she remains the one constant source of light to which Audric will eternally cling.  She is intelligent, graceful, honest, and kind.  Though frustrated with the limits put upon women in feudal France, she knows the duties of her position and abides by them without fail.  She has always maintained her sense of propriety, but whenever she is around Audric, she cannot help but break free of her inhibitions and act upon that which she feels inside.

(appears in volumes 1, 2, 4)

Raphael DeKyper

Picture
Born into a family of Spanish smugglers, he was nearly killed by his own clan during an ambush in the eighteenth century.  Left for dead, his body was recovered by a young monk named Mateo, who awakened him to the ways of the cloth and the sanctity of the church.  He became a monk and served dutifully until a chance encounter with a young woman plunged him into the world of the undead.  He now serves the Holy Catholic Church as the Deliverer and preys upon his own kind in hopes of bringing redemption to his soul.

Patience LaPierre

Picture
Born with extraordinary, psychic powers her religious parents entrusted her care to the Catholic church in hopes that they might be able to help the troubled girl.  The church, in turn, used her powers as a weapon against the undead and sent her to Raphael to be trained and used as needed in his plight against the vampire race.  Though loyal and loving to Raphael, she is not convinced that the church can fulfill all the promises they've made to him and leaves his side in hopes of finding a way to cure him of his blind faith.

(appears in volume 2)

Matthew de Insula Fontis

Picture
Originally assigned to the monastery of Raphael DeKyper, he served the Deliverer dutifully and loyally until it was his time to be called into the fight.  After willfully ingesting the blood of Raphael, he endures his "live christening" to carry on the plight of his church.  But power corrupts, and Matthew is soon consumed with achieving greater and lofty heights than his initial directive commands.  He is cold, brutal, sadistic, and unwavering.  He is determined to achieve all his desires and he will destroy anyone who dares to stand in his way.

(appears in volumes 2, 4)
